Fish is a speciality of Weston Creek’s BYO Croatian restaurant, Maestral. And with exquisitely-prepared food, generous servings, friendly staff and low corkage charges, it’s not surprising that it attracts diners from interstate as well as the ACT. Set among a coterie of eateries overlooking Trenerry Square carpark, Maestral’s extensive menu includes fish stew/soup, seafood platters, reef and beef steak (with prawns), scallops, lemon sole, cod, sardines, along with various accompaniments. Wines and other alcoholic drinks are available from nearby bottle shops. Not surprisingly too, diners’ reviews are positive: ‘…staff happy…polite…knowledgeable and helpful’; ‘…amazing seafood’; ‘…you could not find fresher seafood’; ‘delectable’ calamari. One very satisfied interstate patron lamented not having a such a restaurant in Brisbane, but nevertheless he enjoyed food which transported him ‘…back to the Dalmatian Coast in Croatia’ and was happy to chat in Croatian with the restaurant owner. Maestral Mediterranean Seafood Restaurant opens for dinner, Tuesday-Saturday; and lunch, Wednesday-Friday. Tel: 02-6287 3930.
