Renowned long-time sports broadcaster, and current patron of the Early Morning Centre for the homeless and disadvantaged in Canberra, and Ambassador for various other sport-related endeavours, Tim Gavel, will be in conversation with federal MP, Andrew Leigh, about Andrew’s latest essay: Fair Game: Lessons from Sport for a Fairer Society & A Stronger Economy. The essay compares the performances of Australia’s economy and Australia’s top sportspeople, and asks if the nation that has brought home so many glittering medals and prizes in the sports arena, has a strong enough economy to meet the challenges of the future. Focusing on the kind of economy and society in which we would want to live, various perspectives are canvassed, including the inspirational value of sports. Event details: 6pm, Monday, 26 September, T2 Lecture Theatre, Kambri Centre, ANU.
